Mythdora, a MythTV distribution based on Ferdora

December 18, 2006 in Linux, Media portal, PVR

site_logo.pngMythdora is a Mythtv TV installation almost preconfigured on a Ferdora Core 5 distribution. It seems to be farely complete and based om MythTV 0.20.

Mythdora – MythTV installation made simple is an article describing the distribution and heres a screencast describing the installation.

When I get the time I’ll change the hard disk in my GBPVR based PVR and test MythDora.

Getting DVD-playing to work in GBPVR

September 12, 2006 in PVR

GBPVR

My GBPVR box use a Hauppauge PVR350 card which dont do DVD’s.

This is a sort of a sollution:

I’ve got another (partial) solution for people with PVR-350′s who want to also play DVDs and don’t have room to add a PCI XCard to their small form factor PCs (these typically include one PCI and one AGP slot)…

I have my sff htpc system setup with the 350 in a pci slot and a graphic card with svideo out capability in the agp slot. My TV is connected to the RCA ports on the 350 for normal TV watching, and the SVideo out of the vid card for DVD movie watching. I have winDVD setup to auto play (in full screen) the DVD when it is inserted in the drive… after doing this, I also programmed the irremote.ini file to do the play/ff/rew/skip/pause/etc functions of the winDVD software.

So, when I want to watch a DVD, or see the output from my video card (instead of having an additional monitor in my living room too), I put
the DVD in, Windows loads winDVD, and winDVD is configured to autoPlay it. I can control the DVD navigation using the Hauppauge remote, and as long as I switch the TV input over to the svideo input, and am not trying to watch a recording or livetv through gbpvr, it works like a charm… and the audio output comes out of my surround sound speakers too. Finally, i have programmed the remote to close the winDVD app with a button on the remote, and so it comes right back to gbpvr when I press the button, closing winDVD…
Now, if we could somehow get a plugin programmed that opened up an external dvd playing program to do this automatically through gbpvr, it would be even slicker… but for now, this works well, without having to but extra hardware, etc.

GBPVR PC based video recorder and getting TV-lisings using the excellent O2grabber software

June 20, 2006 in PVR

Currently O2Grabber has stopped working with norwegian channel information. There seems to be a workaround that fools O2grabber to download the correct channelinformation.
The sollution can be found at the following website: http://o2grabber.o2design.se/index.asp?page=faq

In short you need to add the following line to your “hosts” file placed in the folder “c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts:

212.112.161.59 ntb.dagenstv.com

Its easy to edit it with Notepad.

You also need to input the IP-adress in the Proxy settings in the configuration menu in O2grabber. Screenshot below.

MMM – Mac Mini MediaPortal

April 26, 2006 in Media portal, PVR

How to use Mac Mini Intel as a Windows XP based PVR solution running Media Portal.

thumb_mini

“Well, this will be my third MP htpc since the beginning of the project 2 years ago.But this is by far my favorite.

I bought my first mac about a year ago when I was fed up with my PC’s need for another install after not being able to edit dvd’s etc anymore. You know, you get the weirdest errors sometimes only fixable with a reinstall.I thought about buying a mac prior to the mac mini before but the “unkown” kept me from doing it.”
